If you’re looking for a genuine kebab without the grease during your Shoreditch lunch break, then head to Persian Restaurant and Bar. Aptly named, it is exactly what it says on the tin. There is quite a fast pace to the restaurant, so it can help to have a sit down meal and avoid the rush.

Chelo Morgh at Persian Restaurant and Bar in Shoreditch, London

The lunch time menu runs from 11.30am to 4pm, so you have plenty of time to visit. It costs £5 for a take away option and just £1 extra to sit down inside. With options, such as chelo morgh (chicken stew with turmeric and saffran) and chicken shish, there is a good selection of traditional Iranian foodie choices. Alternatively, there are some more general Middle Eastern options, such as falafel and hummus and lamb doner kebab, if you fancy something a bit different. The lunch time options are served with either a salad, wrap or rice option. Some of the rice side dishes come with barberries and infused saffron – so very typical to what you would find for lunch in Iran.

Unfortunately, there is no doogh, (Iranian yoghurt drink with cucumber and fresh mint) however you can drink Ayran, the Turkish yoghurt drink and sip on Persian black tea. The usual fizzy drinks are all available, just like what you would expect in Iran too!

It’s not just lunchtime you can eat here though, the restaurant is open until the early hours of 2am and even later until 4am on Fridays and Saturdays. In the evenings you can expect to find hearty classic stews, such as khoresh-e gheymeh (dried lime, lamb and split pea stew) and gorme sabzi (herb stew).

For a quick Iranian food fix on your lunch break at work, Persian Restaurant and Bar is a great shout. Or you can choose to go in the evening where you can indulge in yet another fantastic section of typically Iranian dishes. Whatever time of day you choose, Persian Restaurant and Bar is perfect for a cheap but tasty Iranian foodie fix.
